POSITION TITLE
Transportation Safety and Training Agent
JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The Transportation Safety and Training Agent is directly supervised by the Director of Transportation and is responsible for ensuring that all carriers comply with the contractual obligations and state laws.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Conduct in-person vehicle inspections to ensure roadworthiness by evaluating carriers’ maintenance programs, assessing compliance with contractual obligations and state standards, and verifying all vehicles possess current insurance cards.
2. Ensure transportation compliance requirements by monitoring driver credentials, verify training requirements and rectify discrepancies with the carriers.
3. Examine criminal history checks, child abuse clearances, and physical exam reports for all drivers, working collaboratively with the PPS Law Department to ensure compliance with safety standards.
4. Ensure up-to-date records are maintained for all drivers by reviewing and recording their licenses and credentials, while building collaborative relationships with carriers to confirm that all driver information is current and complete
5. Verify that all runs are scheduled according to the route sheets and that each vehicle has the appropriate number assigned for the route it is running.
6. Conduct transportation training sessions, including bus safety protocols and evacuation drills, for the school transportation liaison, carriers and other transportation personnel.
7. Develop discussion items and presentations for both District-Scheduled Carrier and Carrier-Scheduled Driver Safety meetings
8. Attend the carriers’ safety training sessions monthly and participate in meetings to provide support and training on ongoing issues such as student behavior, effective interaction with students, strategies for assisting students with disabilities, and proper wheelchair securement.
9. Monitor vehicles to make sure proper procedures are used with students, including required section 1517 of the PA School Code.
10. Ensure bus safety drills are conducted regularly and assist schools with the drills as needed
11. Develop and implement a systematic process for reporting and analyzing safety incidents, including running reports to identify drivers with recurring safety issues.
12. Receive, prepare, and communicate bus incident and accident reports, and follow up to ensure that corrective actions have been implemented.
13. Investigate customer service complaints submitted by schools, families, or carriers, and obtain approval for corrective actions from the Director of Transportation.
14. Assist schools with safety concerns regarding the arrival and dismissal of students by researching driver-related issues when reported, contacting the carriers to request video evidence, and facilitating a meeting involving the school, family, and/or carriers.
15. Implement the school bus safety competition.
16. Participate in departmental, team, and individual planning and goal- setting.
17. Communicate effectively and confidentially at all levels, over the phone, face-to-face, and electronically.
18. Other relevant duties as assigned by supervisor in support of the department's goals and objectives and the District's mission and Superintendent's Priority Goals.
Key Requirements
EDUCATION REQUIRED
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE
2-3 Years in Transportation
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
· Experience entering and managing data and files
· Experience familiarity with Transportation logistical software.
· Ability to analyze data to make an informed decision.
· Ability to organize and utilize resources to achieve results.
· Knowledge or experience in deciphering transportation contracts.
· Experience working with carriers.
· Experience working with youth safety.
· Reliable transportation to travel to various carrier and school sites.
· Experience or ability to conduct presentations and trainings.
· Ability to perform work within specification and in a timely manner while managing multiple priorities.
· Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel (TransFinder Preferred)
