UPMC Passavant is hiring an experienced Medical Assistant to support our Colorectal Surgery Department at the McCandless location. This is a patient‑facing role in a fast‑paced specialty environment, ideal for MAs who enjoy working both independently and as part of a large care team.

Responsibilities:

+ Manage patient medical records in compliance with HIPAA and other regulations and maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data.

+ Obtain and process lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information.

+ Complete necessary forms and schedule appointments.

+ Verify insurance coverage and patient demographics.

+ Prepare and manage patient charts.

+ Perform front office tasks as needed.

+ Prepare and clean patient rooms and equipment according to protocols.

+ Maintain inventory and restock supplies.

+ Organize patient flow and assist patients with various needs.

+ Collect patient information, take vitals, and perform screenings.

+ Relay instructions to patients and families.

+ Answer calls and provide patient education.

+ Assist physicians with procedures and document patient information.

+ Comply with regulatory requirements (i.e., OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health) along with all UPMC Health System policies and procedures

*Perform in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.

*Perform other duties as assigned.

+ High school diploma or equivalent is required.

+ Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic, and treatment room responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

+ 3-5 years of Medical Assistant experience

+ Experience with high‑level disinfection of scopes*

+ Prior Epic Care experience*

*Can be taught

Licenses, Certifications, and Clearances:

+ CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

+ Act 34
