Bring your organization, communication, and customer-service skills to a fast-paced surgical environment where every detail matters. As a Health Unit Coordinator (HUC), you'll play a vital role in keeping operations running smoothly while supporting patients, families, and clinical teams.

Schedule

+ Monday - Friday with rotating Saturdays

+ Variable rotating shifts:

+ 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM

+ 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM

+ 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

+ 12:00 PM - 8:30 PM

About the Role

The Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) plays a key role in ensuring seamless daily operations at the OR front desk. In this highly visible position, you'll serve as the communication hub-managing incoming calls, coordinating patient flow, updating surgical schedules, and facilitating real-time communication between clinical staff, surgeons, and ancillary departments to keep everything running efficiently.

What You'll Do

Create a Welcoming Experience

+ Greet patients, families, visitors, and staff with professionalism and compassion

+ Help maintain a calm, organized, and patient-centered environment

Coordinate & Communicate

+ Manage incoming calls, paging, mail, and unit communication

+ Coordinate patient flow, procedures, and transportation

+ Update surgical schedules and tracking systems (Bedboard/Teletracking)

+ Communicate updates clearly with nurses, physicians, and leadership

Support Clinical Operations

+ Enter and relay physician orders accurately and timely

+ Maintain patient charts and medical records per policy

+ Ensure patient identification and documentation accuracy

Keep the Unit Running Smoothly

+ Monitor and restock supplies and family lounge areas

+ Perform audits, maintain logs, and reconcile charges

+ Troubleshoot and coordinate repairs for office equipment

Be a Team Player

+ Build strong, professional relationships across disciplines

+ Support process improvements and department initiatives

+ Assist with onboarding and serve as a resource for new staff

What We're Looking For

+ High school diploma or equivalent

+ Strong communication, organization, and multitasking skills

+ Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment

+ Computer proficiency required; healthcare systems experience preferred

+ Knowledge of medical terminology preferred

+ Certified Health Unit Secretary course (preferred, not required)

Additional Details

+ May assist with distribution of medications to nursing staff (no administration)

+ Must adhere to HIPAA, safety, and hospital policies

+ Act 34 Clearance required
