**Position Summary**

A Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in Pittsburgh Public Schools supports the **school nurse and health services team** by providing basic medical care and assisting students with health and personal needs. CNAs help ensure a safe, healthy environment so students can fully participate in learning.

**Key Responsibilities**

**1. Student Health Support**

1. Assist students with **daily health needs and personal care** , including:

2. Feeding assistance

3. Toileting/diapering

4. Mobility support (lifting, transferring, wheelchair assistance)

5. Monitor students with medical conditions and report concerns to the school nurse

**2. Medical Assistance**

1. Support the school nurse with:

2. Basic first aid

3. Vital signs (temperature, pulse, etc.)

4. Medication-related tasks (as allowed under supervision)

5. Follow individualized health plans (IHPs) and emergency care plans

**3. Support for Students with Special Needs**

1. Work closely with students with:

2. Physical disabilities

3. Developmental delays

4. Chronic medical conditions

5. Assist with **adaptive equipment and positioning**

**4. Collaboration**

1. Work under the direction of:

2. Certified school nurse

3. Special education staff

4. Teachers and administrators

5. Communicate student health concerns promptly

**5. Hygiene & Safety**

1. Maintain a clean, safe health office and student care areas

2. Follow infection control procedures and universal precautions

3. Assist in emergency situations (seizures, injuries, etc.)

**6. Documentation**

1. Record care provided and observations

2. Maintain confidentiality (HIPAA and FERPA compliance)

3. Assist with health records as needed

**Qualifications**

**Required:**

1. **Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification** (active, state-approved)

2. High school diploma or GED

3. CPR and First Aid certification

4. Background clearances required by Pennsylvania (Act 34, 151, 114)

**Preferred:**

1. Experience working in:

2. Schools

3. Pediatrics

4. Special education environments
