Description
This is a union position.
The Special Events Sales Manager is responsible to develop and foster business through pro-active direct sales, marketing, telemarketing, direct mail, appointment calls and tours of the museum to increase sales of special events.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Requires a Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of sales management experience in a hotel or event venue.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- The candidate should possess an ability to develop and reach sales goals and plans using research, strong communication and organization skills.
- Must have excellent interpersonal, writing and oral communication skills. Ability to construct a sales presentation, negotiate and close a sale.
- Must be efficient at multitasking, providing attention to client & staff needs, while keeping the mission of the museum in mind.
- Knowledge of Event Master & All Seated Diagram Software, a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to transport special event materials (weighing up to 30 pounds) that would otherwise require lifting and carrying.
- Must be able to perform job duties that would otherwise require stooping, bending, moving tables and chairs, and standing for long periods of time.
- Must be able to work varied schedules including holidays, weekends, and evenings.
- Ability to work in various locations and conditions.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Proactively promote and sell the rental of the facilities, using professional and competitive tactics to all potential users, as an attractive venue for private entertaining, business meetings and musical performances with the purpose of generating revenue for Carnegie Museums.
- Provide prompt response to inquiries (via the phone, web, or email).
- Treat every potential client with maximum respect and customer service.
- Provide excellent customer service to all clients, Foster a spirit of collaboration and cooperation between the Special Events department and other CM departments and personnel.
- Follow up on any issues clients report after the event to ensure client satisfaction and to improve event management.
- Responsible for reaching back out to the client to rebook the event for the following year or requesting additional information for other potential business opportunities.
- Meeting or Exceeding specific sales calls, site visits, and revenue goals set by the Director on a per month & annual basis for the department.
- Provide a high level of customer service to clients and staff.
- Willingness to go above and beyond to exceed a client’s expectations.
- Coordinate and promote the use of Culinaire, our exclusive food service vendor, to ensure proper planning, scheduling and level of quality with respect to all events.
- Work with the Director, Special events & Retail Foodservice and other museum staff, foodservice vendors and external clients, including museum programs, foodservice and stores on initiatives to improve the efficiency, customer service and profitability of the Special Events department.
- Inform clients of all potential uses of our rental facilities to assure maximum usage by the client; market other department services and programs to clients to improve the event experience and to increase profitability.
- Participate with the other CM museums in tradeshows, bridal shows and any other outside exhibiting opportunities.
- Complete other projects, as requested by management.
