Description
The Public Relations & Marketing Coordinator tells the story and benefits of the Girl Scout experience to internal and external audiences. The position contributes to the council marketing and communications plan by developing, building, and maintaining the brand and image of the council through the creation and implementation of public relations and marketing campaigns. The Coordinator is also the council spokesperson, available for media appearances and interviews as needed.
The essential functions of this position include the following:
- Represent the organization in media appearances, interviews, and public speaking engagements to communicate key messages and initiatives and promote public awareness and understanding of Girl Scouting
- Work with the Director of Marketing and Communications to evaluate and measure effectiveness of advertising and PR campaigns
- Implement effective strategies for public relations and promotions, including PSAs, scripts, advertising, feature stories, short-form videos, regional magazine articles, mail inserts, brochures, invitations, special mailings, and presentations
- Create press releases to ensure a consistent image of Girl Scouting
- Coordinate and create content for publications and communications to ensure that content is provided, edited, proofed, and consistently branded
- Develop engaging video content, including short-form videos and reels for social media, to highlight Girl Scout programs, events, and success stories.
- Cultivate relationships with media, donors, educators, civic leaders, and program partners to develop cross-promotional opportunities and expand the presence and visibility of Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania
- Foster community engagement by promoting outreach initiatives and collaborations to deepen connections with Girl Scout families, volunteers, and supporters.
- Conduct interviews or obtain submissions by Girl Scouts, volunteers, parents/guardians, or others for promotional content and obtain necessary photo releases and distribute prizes as necessary
Key Requirements
• Min of bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, or marketing
• Min of 1-2 years of demonstrated experience in communications, marketing, or public relations
• Experience in media appearances, public speaking, or representing an organization in interviews, television, radio, or other public forums
• Exceptional writing and proofing skills
